Scouts BSA Leaders

In order to be considered position-specific trained, and be eligible to wear the "Trained" patch under your position patch, an adult leader in a Scouts BSA Troop must take the following courses:

Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters

  • Youth Protection Training, every two years
  • Hazardous Weather Training, every two years
  • Scoutmaster Specific Training
  • Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills

Troop Committee Chairman and Troop Committee Members

  • Youth Protection Training, every two years
  • Troop Committee Challenge

Youth Protection Training and Troop Committee Challenge are currently available online at my.Scouting.org or in classroom sessions. Scoutmaster Specific and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills are available only as in-person courses.  Check the Training Calendar for upcoming courses.
