  • Share and practice ideas for teaching Leave No Trace to Scouts

Course fee: $60

Includes four meals and snacks, camping (Training Lodge or tenting), lots of Leave No Trace instruction materials, and fun!

The course is open to registered adult Scout leaders and registered youth members age 14 and older (ScoutsBSA and Venturers)

Each course participant will prepare and present a lesson or activity lasting 7-10 minutes on a Leave No Trace topic during the weekend, based on resources and materials provided before the course.

Course Information

This 16-hour, overnight course trains interested individuals to serve as BSA Leave No Trace Trainers. Trainers are the backbone of Scouting's outdoor ethics program, providing instruction to individuals and units looking to adopt cutting-edge outdoor ethics into their units programs. The course is recommended for youth serving as the Troop or Crew Outdoor Ethics Guide and the adults who support these youth. In addition, as this course is recognized by the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, you will receive a trainer certificate for their program. This course will also commission you to teach the BSA Leave No Trace 101 course.

Participants should be prepared to:

  • Hike 1hr+.
  • Dress accordingly.
  • Give a ten-minute presentation on one of the seven principles.
