James E. West Fellowship
Background
James E West is recognized throughout the country as the true architect of the Boy Scouts of America. As the First Chief Scout Executive of the BSA he served for 32 years.
The James E. West Fellowship Award
The award is a Nationally recognition by Scouting America and is presented by the Western Massachusetts Council at our annual council meeting and award ceremony. This award is presented to individuals or organizations that give a gift to our council’s endowment fund. The gift can be given to honor Scout leader’s past and present, family members, Scouts, and Eagle Scouts.
Gift
Gifts and donations are given in the amounts of $1000 in cash or marketable securities. Donors may make cumulative gifts over time at membership levels of $1000 for Bronze, $5000 for Silver, $10,000 for Gold, and $15,000 for Diamond. For example, 5 years of giving at the Bronze level would qualify for Silver level membership. Donations to the James E. West fund may be made in one payment or in increments.
Recognition
Certificates are presented at the annual meeting and awards ceremony with the with donor’s name, date of gift, and the individual names of those honored by the donor with the gift.
Plus, the donor is presented with a lapel membership pin at the appropriate level to wear on civilian clothing, as well as a square knot to wear on their Scout uniform.
