POW WOW is a day of fun‐filled, action‐packed hands‐on supplemental training sessions designed to enhance the leader’s ability to deliver a fun and exciting program to the boys of Cub Scouting.  POW WOW is a Cub Scout Leader’s Learning Event.  Classes will be offered on subjects relevant to every Cub Scout Position!

¨ Enthusiasm and Scout Spirit.

All Leaders, new and experienced, can learn a lot from POW WOW.  We welcome everyone who wants to attend.

1.      Den Leaders: Beyond the Basics: Den Leaders will get tips beyond those given in basic training on how to further develop den meetings and implement fun & exciting programs.

2.  Academics and Sports - Learn how to plan and use the Sports and Academics program to encourage your Cub Scouts to learn about different sports and academic disciplines. We will help you promote fitness and scholarship in your den. 

3.  Religious Scouting Awards - Wondering how to help Cubs earn their religious emblems while supporting their spiritual growth in fun ways? See how to start a program for your unit, including how to recognize adult leaders

4.  Cubmaster for Dummies – How to be an efficient and effective Cubmaster.  Is it a science or an Art? Is it a skill or a talent? Putting on a great Pack Meeting takes planning, organization and execution. We have lots of ideas to help you master Cubmastering. 

5.  Give Your Leaders Recognition - What are the Scouter square knot awards all about? Come learn about the square knot award requirements for each position in Cub Scouting, including the new Pack Trainer square knot award, and how you can apply for the square knot award to recognize the leaders in your pack.

6.  Scoutcraft for Cub Leaders - Wondering what KNOT is that KNOT? How to properly fold a flag? Come learn about basic scoutcraft for Cubs.

7.  On Pins and Needles - Unravel the mysteries of Cub Scout achievements, advancements and awards. We'll cover pins and patches, their names and how to wear them, completing the required paperwork. 

8.  Cub Camp - Nothing beats going to summer camp, but where do you start? Come and learn what you need to know about Cub Day and Resident Camp and what leaders and parents need to know too. We'll tackle the questions together.

9.  Whittlin’ Chip - Learn the fine art of teaching Cub Scouts how to use a pocket knife … safely ... while they earn their Whittlin' Chip award and keep all their fingers. 

10. Who's Who on the Pack Committee - Learn about the backbone of every strong Pack! We talk about what the committee does and what jobs need to be done.  

11.  Scouts With Disabilities – Trying to understand disabilities and how to work with them.

12.  100th Anniversary – What it is and what Western Mass is doing.

13.  Service Projects – Are doing them?  Ideas and discussion of service projects for Cubs.

14.  Scouting on the Web – Unit websites and web resources

15.  Summertime Pack Award and Field Trips

16. Cub Crafts – Craft ideas to fit your monthly themes and help with advancement. Simple and inexpensive crafts for den meetings.

17.  Webelos to Scout Transition – A team effort

18.  Introduction To Letterboxing & Geocaching: What are these treasure-hunting games? Learn the basics of and how to incorporate puzzle solving and hiking.

19.  Unit Commissioners:  Who Are They and How Can They Help Me?: Your Unit Commissioner can be a valuable resource to help your unit implement the best possible Scouting program. Find out more at this resource.

20.  Leave No Trace – This program helps the boys to be more concerned about the environment and how to protect it for future generations. Learn how to incorporate it into your pack and den activities.

Blue and Gold Luncheon –  Attend an actual Blue and Gold celebration.  All participants will have lunch provided during the B&G."

  Classes will be from this list.  When you register, please choose eight classes and you will be placed in five (we will try to honor your first choices, but final class assignments will depend on the interest level and the schedule).
