Fast Start Training

Fast Start Training is taken after Youth Protection Training.

When new leaders are selected in Scouting, it is essential that they receive immediate information that will help them get started. Proper training lays the groundwork for success in their leadership roles. This guidance will help new leaders understand what is expected, and establish effective meeting patterns so that the boys and their families can enjoy a quality program from the start.

As the second step in the training continuum, Fast Start Training provides all the information and resources for new leaders to conduct their first meeting, along with guidance for the meetings that follow. Self-study, rather than group training, is the method for Fast Start Training. This gives the new leader the opportunity to learn at his or her own pace.

There are Fast Start Training versions available for the following leadership positions: Den Leader*, Cubmaster*, Pack Comittee, Boy Scouting, Varsity Leader, Venturing, Chartered Organization Representative, and Unit Commissioner. Those noted with an * are also available in Spanish language versions.

All new leaders should take the Fast Start Training as soon as they are recruited. They are encouraged to participate in Leader Position Specific Training and attend monthly roundtables. Like Youth Protection Training, the BSA Fast Start Training is available at the web site.
