party in western Massachusetts
100th Anniversary Scout Shows on Saturday, February
13that Ingleside Mall, Eastfield Mall, and Berkshire Mall.
This is a fantastic opportunity to let families see what Scouting
has to offer, and to celebrate Scouting’s 100th Anniversary at the
same time!
If you forgot to sign your unit
up, it might not be too late, Call your D.E.
We are searching for Scouting and non-Scouting Geocachers to help
launch the
“Get
in the Game! with Geocaching”
events in our council. Different events may include the hiding of
one (or more?) series of 12 caches based on the Scout Law. Another
series, called The Trail to Eagle, will place caches at the
sites different Eagle Projects. The Treasures of Scouting
series of caches will promote all levels of Scouting from Cubs to
Venture. There will also be council “Travel Bugs” attached to
items representing our council traveling around the world.
Geocoins, starting in our council, will also be traveling from
cache to cache. We will also be in a race to see which council has
what it takes to get their Pinewood Derby car to the Jamboree in the
“Race to 2010”.
There is also a national service project called “Cache In, Trash
Out” event planned. Interested? Contact Bill Macfarlane at
wmgetinthegame@gmail.com
If you or your son, or someone you know
has been planning on attending the Jamboree and have not
signed up - Now Is The Time - do not wait or you may
lose the opportunity. There will be no other council
sponsored contingent or trip to the 2010 Jamboree, so sign
up now.
To sign up, you must go to
www.myscouting.org
and sign up using the BSA's online registration system.
It will cost you a $10 online registration fee (sorry, but
the online registration is a national requirement)
After you have signed up online, you
will then be approved to attend the Jamboree with the
Western Massachusetts Council or placed on the waiting list. We must have
registrations now! You can not wait or we will have to
turn our second troop back to National. The $10 online
registration fee is non-refundable.
It’s time to start celebrating folks!

U.S. Senate Recognizes 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts
U.S. Senator Lamar
Alexander (R-Tenn.), an Eagle Scout, announced that the
Senate has passed a resolution he cosponsored to
recognize February 8, 2010, as “Boy Scouts of America
Day” in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Boy
Scouts.
“Being a Boy Scout helped me build character and
appreciate the outdoors. It taught me about this country
and what it means to be an American, and I’m glad the
Senate has recognized the organization on its
centennial,” Alexander said. “The Boy Scout law says we
should be trustworthy, loyal, helpful and friendly, and
the slogan reminds us all to do a good turn daily.”
The bipartisan resolution to designate February 8, 2010
as “Boy Scouts of America Day” in celebration of the
organization’s 100th anniversary passed the Senate by
unanimous consent.
