Sometimes the question is asked: What is the Leader Recognition Dinner? A better question might be "WHY the Leader Recognition Dinner?"

The answer to both questions is simple. It is our night as Scouters to shine! One night out of 365 is not a lot. Most of the year we are behind the scenes supporting the program; be it Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, Venturers or Explorers. This is a night to recognize the achievements of our fellow Scouters. The Silver Beaver is awarded to those so deserving along with other awards and recognitions as listed below.

These are the stated reasons for the dinner. But more importantly it is the fellowship of Scouting that we celebrate. It is a chance to see old friends and make new ones and to share experiences and exchange information. It is a night for Scouters who give their `hour a week' to sit down and relax and not have to look for the Cubmaster, Senior Patrol Leader or Crew President to ask what is going on.

Awards to be presented or recognized are: Silver Beavers, Training awards, District Awards of Merit, President's Awards, Commissioner Keys or Arrows and units earning Journey to Excellence. Also individual or unit longevity of 50 years or more will be recognized. (These must be verified by National.) All of the information for these awards or recognitions must be in the Scout Office by January 9, 2012.
