Honoree, Brian Tuohey

Brian Tuohey's success as President of The Collins Companies has only been equaled over the last thirty years by his contributions to his community, his family, and to the hundreds of people with physical, educational, and financial needs who have benefitted from his generosity and support.

Holder of a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA, Brian first joined Collins Pipe as its Sales Manager in 1984. In 1986 he was promoted to President and in 1998, he purchased the company. Under Brian's leadership, Collins has grown substantially. Founded over 80 years ago, Collins is one of the oldest and largest industrial distributors of pipe, valves, fittings (PVF), and engineered specialties serving the industrial marketplace in the Northeast.

Since Brian assumed the helm, Collins has opened or acquired eight new locations throughout the Northeast. Collins has grown in sales from approximately $2.5 million in 1983 to $60 million in 2015. With each new location and acquisition, Collins has brought jobs and economic growth to the areas in which it is located.

Brian's dedication to Collins is matched by his dedication to his community. His contributions have been both public and private, from his service on the boards of many nonprofit, education, and social services organizations.

As a member of the board of the Brightside Home for Families and Children, Brian served as sponsors chairman for the first Brightside Golf Classic, an event that donates 100% of the funds it raises to providing compassionate care, rehabilitation, counseling, family therapy, and special education to hundreds of families and children in need. He has also served on the board of Habitat for Humanity, for whom his company financed the Springfield chapter's first "Blitz Build" in 2002.  Collins Pipe has also been a repeated Platinum Sponsor of and participant in the Worley Parsons Tournament for Life, one of the largest fundraising events for the American Cancer Society in the country.

Of particular importance to the local community have been Brian's contributions to education. A founder and past President of the Longmeadow Education Excellence Foundation (LEEF), he helped create an organization that has raised more than $1,000,000 to date for innovative educational and enrichment programs in the Longmeadow Public Schools; these are programs that are not supported by local taxes. Higher education has also benefitted from Brian's involvement.  For many years, he has served on the board of Springfield Technical Community College (STCC), for which he acted as co-chair of the 2007-2008 Major Gift Campaign. Brian's efforts helped raise $4.5 million for STCC, and in appreciation the college awarded Brian an Honorary Degree in 2008. In 2013, Brian continued his commitment to the education and the advancement of our local youth by accepting an appointment to the Board of Trustees for Bay Path University in Longmeadow, Massachusetts.

Brian lives in Longmeadow with his wife Pamela where they raised their five children, three of whom have joined him at Collins to ensure that the company remains a caring, family centered business.

On its website, Collins lists among its mission a commitment to "always operate our business with the highest level of dignity and integrity." It can fairly be said that Brian Tuohey lives his life with the highest level of dignity and integrity as well.
